Hi all, I am looking for a few overseas venues (I am based in the UK) to tour my Micro-Pages project/exhibition to next year. If your library is interested please get in touch. All you require to show the exhibition is a microfilm reader machine that can handle a 35mm microfilm reel.

ARTSPACE MACKAY FOUNDATION GIFT: SMS / William Copley
On display at Cox Rayner Gallery from April 2009 onwards
Artspace Mackay, Queensland, Australia

Compiled in 1968 by the American Surrealist artist William Copley (1919 - 1996), the SMS portfolios reflect both the diversity of art and the anti-commercial idealism of the time. Inspired by Marcel Duchamp's La boite-en-valise (the box in a suitcase) 1934-41, Copley set out to produce a new form of art journal. He invited a diverse range of artists, writers and musicians to submit a work of art that was reproduced and included,w ithout comment or explanation, in a boxed collection avaialbel by mail order subscription, limited to an edition of 2000.

This set of six portfolios is a major addition to the Mackay Regional Council's Artists' Book Collection. It represents the historically important development of 1960s artists' books as a means for artists to make work that can be sold to a wide audience, bypassing the 'elitist' filter of the comemrcial gallery system. It includes work by many of the pioneers of artists' books such as Dieter Roth, Bruce Nauman, Lawrence Weiner and Dick Higgins, as well as multiples by Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, Roy Lichetnstein, Christo, Yoko Onon and On Kawara.

Minuscule/Massive/En Masse is an exhibition of artist books now on show at Hand Held in Melbourne. On show are 8 artist book prototypes and wall works all derived fron the experimental text Alley Cat Nomad by Adrian Lawson. Alley Cat Nomad is a playful, rambling text which Lawson describes as a poetic journey. In keeping with the text the books are intended to be playful, rambling and a journey to read and engage with. The books explore and respond to a question of readability posed by many writers, will it be published? will it be read? can it be read? will the reader make that journey?

For more info and images of the show go to www.handheldgallery.blogspot.com

Minuscule/Massive/En Masse run until Feb 28th 2009 at Hand Held Gallery Suite 18, (upstairs) the Paramount, 108 Bourke street Melbourne , 3000.

INTERACTIVE

Entry Deadline: March 18, 2009

Exhibition dates: June 19 – July 23, 2009
Woman Made Gallery, Chicago

Long before “interactive” meant sitting in front of a computer, artists were making books, toys, games, installations and other work that invited participation from the viewer. For this exhibition Woman Made Gallery is seeking work that the viewer will handle, play with, modify, or physically interact with in some way.

Open to artwork in all media, except electronics, by women artists from the international community. (Computers may only be used as a tool in producing the physical work.)

Juror: Karen Hanmer

Online and downloadable entry forms available here.
