Help with binding glossy pages

I have a crisis on my hands - working under a tight deadline to bind a book of photos printed on glossy paper and have found that when gluing the spine and attaching mull, the glue seeps between signatures and damages the prints. Does anyone more experienced have any suggestions about alternatives methods of attaching mull and reinforcing the spine?
