Where artists' books and the book arts meet online...
Was trying to find some info on mobile phone (non smart-phone) art; book art or otherwise. Google has failed me a bit. I know there must be some artists who have used this media in the past or perhaps still do?
Would appreciate any suggestions of artists/websites/articles I can have a look at.
Two examples, the first bluetooth, the second SMS.
Maria Fusco - writer, critic and editor, Director of Art Writing at Goldsmiths College in London. Maria discussed alternative methods of distribution, with particular focus on a number of contemporary artists’ projects that challenge conventional boundaries of production and presentation. She also showed Doom Knots, her own artist’s project which utilised Bluetooth to transmit a daily series of short texts to office workers in London. http://www.bookarts.uwe.ac.uk/seminar08.htm
31/10/08 - 05/11/08 E. F. Stevens
We invited the artist E.F. Stevens, Colorado, USA, to produce a phone-based piece for our AHRC project in 2008, as a series of short, texts to create an artist’s book in five installments (plus afterword). People signed up by emailing their numbers, texts were free to receive. http://www.bookarts.uwe.ac.uk/efstevens08.htm
I would love to know of more examples too! There must be artists doing this.
Maria of course! And yes I remember reading about the second artist now. Thanks Sarah; knew you would come to the rescue!
If I find any others I will post them up here.
