Anyone used a paster making machine as an experiemental home print press? Heard its quite good for flexible plates (ie, not zinc etc..) when you dont have access to a proper press........

The secret to printing on film for screen positives is to apply a dusting of talcom powder over the top. Then blow it off. Don't wipe it.

This print was 1 meter x 1/2 meter and printing the lino on the presses available (Glasgow Print workshop) wasn't gonna happen easily so I used that technique and screened it. http://www.lawrencefinn.com/home/lfdcwp/wp-content/gallery/Linocut/towers/towerofSong.jpg

Hello Nancy. Welcome to the forum. There is always much to be learned and taught not always from the sources we expect. There are certainly some pros on this site but most are just like you and me... artists who are driven to use books (and prints) to communicate. It's nice to belong and it's nice to have you here. Best wishes to you.

Hello to the printmaking, fine press and letter press forum. I have no idea about correct protocol, but it seemed that perhaps I should introduce myself as I'm a new member. Frankly I have not participated in many on-line forums, so I'm a bit new at this. I am more a printmaker than a book artist, although my goal is to combine the two. I have made a few simple journals and books. I live and work in France, although I'm originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. I hope to learn a lot from all you pros.

I've purchased the most quaint but perfectly functional Adana letterpress 8 x 5 and can't wait to use it, trouble is, I have so many books in my dreams to print and so little space and time at present, that these books remain in my mind...sigh!

A Call to Action for Letterpress Printers!

To protest & commemorate the bombing of Mutanabbi Street, the centre of bookselling in Baghdad, on March 5th 2007, the MUTANABBI STREET COALITION is organising readings and other events that will begin in March 2009 as a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders.

On March 5th 2007, a car bomb was exploded on Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad.

Mutanabbi Street is in a mixed Shia-Sunni area. More than 30 people were killed and more than 100 were wounded. Mutanabbi Street, the historic centre of Baghdad bookselling, holds bookstores and outdoor bookstalls, cafes, stationery shops, and even tea and tobacco shops. It has been the heart and soul of the Baghdad literary and intellectual community.

42 artists have already contributed, but the organisers would love to get the total up to 140, and are asking the International Print community to help.

You can view previous contributions here.

This is a call for more printed works to help fundraise, you would need to make an edition of 15 broadsides.

For more information contact: Coordinator of Mutanabbi Street Broadside Project II, Lisa Beth Robinson, at robinsonli@ecu.edu or Beau Beausoleil at overlandbooks@earthlink.net

Deadline for contributions is: JANUARY 15TH 2009
