Comment by Theresa Easton on January 24, 2012 at 5:48 ‘The Story of Sunderland’ is a community project that celebrates the significant relationship that the area’s residents have with Benedict Biscop, who in 674 AD established the monastery of Wearmouth-Jarrow at the mouth of the Wear, the very site where the National Glass Centre
now stands. Currently on display on their balcony gallery is a series of hand made books made by a group of adutls new to print and bookbinding. The work responds to the historical significance of the area and celebrates the contribution made by both Biscop & Bede.
I worked with this group for 10 weeks and have been absolutely amazed at the depth and clarity of their skills and ideas. If you are in the area, why not check out the work and find out more about Biscop & Bede.
