Hi Lisa
Just guessing but I think by "doesn't blend", you might mean that the collage is hand-made and soft-edged and the digitally printed text is machine-made and hard-edged?
One solution is to alter the text in Photoshop before printing to be softer/less defined. Raterize it and then alter the photo version. The other is to alter /damage the printed text before, after or as you add it. Transfer a ghost or slipped image maybe.

Lisa Young (now months ago -- I've been away... ) Well, I never solved this problem myself. I've put my hands on some more sophisticated typesetting software than I was using but the learning curve is pretty steep. And then, if you don't want a page constructed in the computer... What do you mean by "blend"? I had a look at your page -- your work looks pretty 3D, which is another problem entirely. Have you tried making a gel transfer with Golden's digital medium? You can plaster this on anything.

I am struggling with getting text into my collage books. My handwritng is awful and doesn't fit; anything printed doesn't blend the way I want it to. How do other people deal with this problem? I am working on my writing. In my daily journal it looks fine, but on the collaged pages it doesn't seem to fit. Any ideas?

Letterbox is a typography and graphic design studio in Melbourne that runs some very interesting public events, publishes books and develops exhibitions about typography.
It is run by a lovely guy called Stephen Banham.

Marshall, I did have a look. The product is interesting but tells me not much about methods. Could we hear more? I tried gum-bichromate printing (a solar emulsion which can be painted onto handmade paper) some years ago -- the transparency can be made on a laser printer. Infinitely malleable as a process but hard to control, especially without a light table and other stuff I didn't have. I got a few nice things out of it.

I interested in multi-lingual contemporary manuscripts, alternative and experimental calligraphy, rubbings, tracing, chemical transfer and other downright weird ways to get text onto the page and integrated into the image. I am not interested in machine produced or printed texts. Visit my Organik site for a taste of this handwritten convulsion and let me know what you think, or what/who out there with similar concerns.

Caren - you know me I just get impatient and want everything to happen immediately - although 140 members in just over 2 weeks is pretty good...

I'm sure that will come, Robert... I think the membership is really impressive so far!

Caren - I know what you mean - there has been a lot of people joining the site but not a lot of discussion - except for here. Although there has been a lot of comments on some people's individual sites. Have a look at some of the members and there are some very interesting people who have joined up.

Sara Bowen -- I had a look at your website, where I saw some fine images, but still don't understand your procedure -- by "only readable is a shadow" etc do you mean readable only when the light strikes at a particular angle? Sorry if I'm obtuse. I'm wonder if I could somehow reverse things and have the image be the shadow.
