London based Painter and Printmaker. My past work has been based in abstract painting, collage and mono printing using acrylic, pigments and oils on canvas. My style often combines vibrant colours and textures using a layering process to integrate the tones and create depth.
I have continued to explore the use of atypical resources often recycling materials, which are paper based, and work into old canvases building up on layers, creating textural collages. At same time I use my sketchbooks as a medium building up a creative continuum as transcribed into my own personal reference journals with some work reflecting old manuscripts and artefacts. The structure, environment and history of places visited on my overseas travels are reflected in many pieces.
Currently studying MA fine art and have been exploring in preparation for studies the process of transforming books and paper based journals into the age of electronic reading materials exploring is this a destructive loss = death of the book.
The exhibition presents two connected bodies of material: a survey of artists’ books by Australian painter, sculptor and bookmaker Robert Jacks (1942-2014), and an extensive selection of publications drawn from Jacks’ own collection, many of which were purchased from Printed Matter in the early years of the organization.
