Hi David - I've just realized I met you and family at the FA Darradgee Field Centre Workshop - was that last year already? Wonderful to see you and your work/studio pics on here.
Cheers!
PS. As an ex Vic. I don't miss the cold.

That's great about the show in July... I'm in & out a lot that month, but I'll try to see the show if I can't make the opening. I love seeing people using letterpress and especially if they have to get inventive with their printing process! I've got a vandercook SP-20 that I'm currently de-rusting, and I do have all the quoins and things :) Mostly I teach students how to get inventive with small bits of type, because they're not given the time to learn typography properly.
I would love to do one of your courses, but it may not be this batch. Please keep me informed of any others you run. Cheers, Caren

David,

Thanks for the kind words about my work. Most of my images are reduction woodcuts printed on my Vandercook SP-15. I work with birch plywood and just print as many runs as it takes to resolve the image, which might be 15 or so before I am done. Some runs are hand inked and some are done with the press rollers. My single sheet print editions are usually around 25 copies, but my book editions are more often between 50 and 100. But I do them much more seldom and many years go by between books. I often sum up a series of work with a book. By the time I finish it I am so sick of the idea I must move on to new territory. My latest has taken 4 years. Way too long.

Well, all my best,

Jim

David,

Welcome to the site. I have to say that I am very envious of your wonderful studio space. Hardly what I would call a shed. Did you also build the furniture inside? Your press is also a beautiful thing. I print on a Vandercook SP-15, not as beautiful an object, but a wonderful press none the less. I really like your wood engravings and the tone of your work. As one relief printer to another, keep up the good work. I will continue to watch your work, so post it whenever you have new things.

Cheers from the U.S.

Jim
