Background
I made my first artist book in 2000 while I was a student at the Canberra School of Art. In 2004, during an internship at the National Library of Australia, I had the opportunity to try my hand at book conservation.
I have since explored binding both vast quantities of paper and books of only 4 - 6 pages. I use various natural fibres to bind my books, most recently horse hair. I have also made sculptural work based upon the structure of the book and methods of binding.
This year I have completed my first edition during a graduate residency in the Book Studio at the Canberra School of Art, ANU.
I also moonlight as a shop assistant in Canberra's most gorgeous bookshop, the Paperchain.

Artist statement

My practice forever embraces the potential for motion and flux offered by the sequential nature of the page and limitless space found within the structure of the book. In my drawings I use repetition to create this same impression of movement and in this way book making has had a profound impact upon my practice as a whole.
With a sensibility for the ephemeral in both media and subject matter, my work explores the limits of sight and visibility, inspiring intimate experiences of fragility to comment upon our changing relationship with the natural world.

Hi Genevieve
I keep meaning to tell you how much I love the work in the book cabinet near the gallery. It is so poignant, suggesting the very fragility of the book, and therefore culture, in our world. It makes the written word seem as ephemeral as the spoken word. Truly beautiful.
Thanks for adding me to your friends list. I've never done blogging before but this seems a great idea.
