Your work is intriguing--further inquiry into "what a book can be".

re:" i guess the paper on the ground has some-how come from the larger document above. can you tell me more about this piece?"

A chapter from a book is hole punched and the paper on the ground is the positives from the holes. This is a maquette for a piece I am in the process of making, using a whole book - called 'Learning, memory and Conceptual processes'.

The idea behind it, is that the infomation missing from the text is all still there - and however unreadable it is, some of the context still percolates through. Also, over time the tiny punches will be lost as it travels... The title of the book is really important for the starting point of the meaning of the work, the sub title is an emotional response to receiving and taking in the written word.

Hope that helps. Cheers, Amy

Thanks for your comment Jon. Your 'colour wheel' books remind me of slices of timber ....

Some of your book-wheels (never heard the term before) look awsome, and heavy! Particularly like the one with blue spines in the wooden structure. The spines of books on shelves often look intreaguing on an aesthetic level, and your taking the practicality out of them really shows it. It looks like it needs to be walked round...

Available to everyone: Robert Jacks & Printed Matter

10 September - 24 October 2016

Printed Matter is pleased to announce Available to Everyone: Robert Jacks and Printed Matter, curated by Peter Anderson.

The exhibition presents two connected bodies of material: a survey of artists’ books by Australian painter, sculptor and bookmaker Robert Jacks (1942-2014), and an extensive selection of publications drawn from Jacks’ own collection, many of which were purchased from Printed Matter in the early years of the organization.

If you are interested in advertising your event, publication  or project here - contact Robert regarding rates.
