Ms. Russell-Steuart grew up in Maryland and earned a BFA in General Fine Art from Maryland Institute, College of Art in 1990. Her internships were in art criticism at the Baltimore Sun and printmaking/book arts at Pyramid Atlantic Center for Book Arts and Papermaking. Her work encompasses multiple mediums with a particular interest the synthesis of word and image. She has shown installation, letterpress artists books, painting, and experimental video. Her video short, “Flying After” was awarded First Place in the Master Freestyle category of The Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival. She publishes letterpress books of poetry and artist’s books under the imprint Caveworks Press, which features poets of the Midwest. Her books are collected by several University libraries, including The University of Iowa, and Texas State University. The latest title is Out of the Blue by Aaron James McNally. She resides in Reinbeck, Iowa with her husband, David, and young daughter, Cassandra.
hi julie welcome to the textual group, i see i was not the only one to get a message from rose! your work sounds intersting, i have been making books for awhile, i guess really i put my work into books. My work is about journeys so it kind of fits into the book frame work.
The exhibition presents two connected bodies of material: a survey of artists’ books by Australian painter, sculptor and bookmaker Robert Jacks (1942-2014), and an extensive selection of publications drawn from Jacks’ own collection, many of which were purchased from Printed Matter in the early years of the organization.
