I've been asked how I get ideas for my books. Some happen quickly. Some take years for the materials and text to come together.
In early 2000, while working at a large commercial art firm, I saw a framed Japanese print from the 1920's. The background colors graduated from soft green to soft lapis blue, with darker blue mountains in the middle. The foreground was a riot of flowers, greenery, children, and kites. I've never seen it again, or tracked down its artist, but I never forgot…

Someone I've never met, who has changed my life in amazing ways, needs my help. Writer, editor, and artist Terri Windling has run into a rough patch due to health-related financial difficulties, and a large group of her friends have gathered for a pre-Christmas charity auction for her. We've raised around 33K so far in goods and services like first edition signed books, original artwork, handmade clothing and jewelry, and manuscript and portfolio critiques. when i first met you i didn't know anything about artists' books. now that i've been reading more (since i've become interested in making them) i appreciate them all the more.
the textures and the detail in road trip are beautiful. all of the photos you have up are, but i guess one has preferences! as for the chandler book, it's something i relate to because of the form, the colour and the theme.

i didn't expect to find you here, and am glad i have. hope you are well.
i really liked the chandler map book, and the road trip.

Aurora Oberloh said… I love your work! I see you like to work with fabric. I have been following the work of Jane LaFazio and Judy Coats Perez who do mixed media fabric quilting work which I think (maybe) I might try "some day."
You mentioned Gwen Diehn in one of your posts. I have her first book and just purchased her newer one. They are both great. I actually took a workshop from her in Cortona, Italy.
You asked if I was showing my work anywhere. No, I am not. For the time being, I'm happy to show it on Book Arts 3.0 and on my own blog.
It wasn't that long ago that I created my blog which took weeks to figure out and put together. Now I will have to spend some time getting to know my way around Book Arts 3.0, your site, my blog site on it, etc. Looks like a great internet community.
