I am a visual artist of Greek origin, currently living in California. My work explores the process of transformation through installations of original photographic material, writings and artists’ books. Tools of choice are film cameras, handmade papers including Gampi, a rare Japanese handmade paper and Platinum printing. The setting of images and the visual vocabulary of abstract concepts (grief, surrender, purification of intent, transformation) depict or reference symbols and archetypes from my Hellenic roots. The installation concepts reflect on fragility, impermanence, vulnerability. The two completed parts of the trilogy have been presented in six solo shows in Europe and in the United States. My work is in public and private collections in the United States and in Europe, including the Library of Congress, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens, Greece, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Photographic Archives of the Benaki Museum in Athens, Greece, the S&R Foundation, Arizona State University, Oregon College of Art and Craft, Princeton University, Smith College, Stanford University, the University of Washington in Seattle and Yale University.

The exhibition presents two connected bodies of material: a survey of artists’ books by Australian painter, sculptor and bookmaker Robert Jacks (1942-2014), and an extensive selection of publications drawn from Jacks’ own collection, many of which were purchased from Printed Matter in the early years of the organization.
