Collective Atlas at International

October 4, 2011 at 6pm to October 1, 2012 at 7pm
Call for Artists: Lets get together and create our Collective Atlas! The idea is to create a representation of the world through people who know the places.Think of a village/town/city that you have spent time in. The task is to try and represent it the best you can in one simple book. The book must only be made from one A4 sheet of paper or card (of your choice) and can only be folded into the format you want. Cuts can be made but the sheet must remain relatively whole – so not cut right in…See More

Hello Penny - I think I left a note on the wrong page - I make books- I do NOT navigate well around a computer! The diary pages I am looking for this time have to do with who/What is influencing your are making practice. Old/New - an INTERESTING journal page would be great. If you would like to do a weekly/monthly swop, I am keen.

The secret to printing on film for screen positives is to apply a dusting of talcom powder over the top. Then blow it off. Don't wipe it.

This print was 1 meter x 1/2 meter and printing the lino on the presses available (Glasgow Print workshop) wasn't gonna happen easily so I used that technique and screened it. http://www.lawrencefinn.com/home/lfdcwp/wp-content/gallery/Linocut/towers/towerofSong.jpg

Dear Penny
Thanks for your question and comment. Like you, I am a fledgling bookmaker. 'The Enchanted Hair Ornaments' is a unique state book, really an experiment. The text and images were printed on an ink jet printer. The original work comprises a series of small acrylic paintings on canvas on which the text was hand written. I have already cut (but not yet printed) a series of lino blocks intended for an artist's book based on the same story.

Hi Penny, the cyanotypes aren't that hard, there are very good instructions in with the kit you buy from Vanbar. You do need to have a dark room of some sort. I have a solid roller blind on my laundry window so can block out most of the light. It is not as critical as other photographic techniques since the exposure time is quite long.

Bit of a mystery ar'nt you Penny ?? I have a very good friend who used to live in Peckham, London. I smiled when I read your background notes i.e., "fledgling" - it's very sweet.

I saw some seagull fledglings today on a high roof opposite the print workshop that I go to in Dunfermline, Scotland. They were pretty big and yet still their parents were bringing them food. It was also pretty scary for them to jump off of and just start flying!! Incredibly noisy so and sohs but it was nice sitting outside eating my sandwich - it almost felt like I was on holiday - oh the sun was out too !!

Have you ever been to the UK ? bye for now

best wishes

Aine
