I am self-taught artist: I graduated from the Università di Milano in Slavic Languages and Literatures. I'm Italian, based in Spain since 2004.
Poetry, literature and foreign languages - if not language itself - has always been a necessary nourishment, an indispensable complement, the starting and ending point of my artistic vision. I have always been drawing and doing art: among the reasons why I decided to make of Slavic studies my cultural background, was a deep fascination with typo-graphic aspects of the Cyrillic alphabet, beyond wanting to discover the meaning beyond those semantic symbols.
When I realized my first limited edition book (Mice) based on a text by Lev Tolstoy, which I myself translated into Italian, I discovered how the woodcut technique not only permitted me to harmoniously combine a text with illustrations, but also to carve - and translate - a text devoting all the time and dedication each word requires: it was the perfect medium for me to express the twofold task highlighting the visual magic and the semantic valence of the word.
My artistic interest and commitment has been focussing on printmaking and fine press books: a successive project, "Duccio the Householder Appliances Painter", was awarded at the Bologna international Book Fair as well as in Tokyo. It has also appeared in 2008 on the British magazine "Illustration", Spring Issue.
Combining words and images revealed itself a winning experience over again when working on "All The Letters To The Beloved", a series of 23 color woodblock prints. The gallery presentation in Milan, also displaying the original woodblocks, was colorful and successful.
When I moved to Spain, I kept on deepening my printmaking experience and took two intensive years in Stone Lithography and one in typography and letterpress. Apart from limited edition books and albums, I have been working on a number of various illustrations and design projects (t-shirts, lamps and lamps shields, etc...).
I am currently working on a new book project which will see the light in 2009 and printing nice new prints.
Thank you for taking the time to get to read so far!
No - We've shipped to Europe for over 40 years! We do, however, have many distributors in Western Europe...England, France, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Spain and probably a few that I've missed.
If the Spanish distributors aren't stocking what you need, either contact them and ask them to add your needs to their next order, or we can make arrangements to ship directly. We have an order going out in the next couple of days to Valencia, but the paperwork is completed on that one, so it will have to be the next order.
Ah, Valeria.
A presto, Gaetano
Ciao, Valeria.
Spero tu abbia un po' di tempo per dare un'occhiata alle novità su
www.bulino.com e http://gaetanobevilacqua.blogspot.com
Cordiali saluti,
Gaetano
Felice di essere tra i tuoi amici a di averti tra i miei.
Sfortunatamente non sono IL BULINO cui tu fai riferimento.
Io faccio cose molto piccole e in piccolo.
Hi Valeria.
I've just visited your site and found your work excellent. I remember I met you in Milan while attending the Civico Corso (the calcography course with Francesca Fornerone) a long time ago. Your MICE was in progress. I clearly remember you working at it. Great edition! Now I'm happy to meet you again here, at Artist Books.
Ciao,
Gaetano
Hello. I don't really have a website of my own. Hopefully some day soon. I will post images from my books on this site as they get made. I also have a page on Inkteraction.ning.com where I post images of my single sheet prints and drawings. Nice to meet you online. Thanks for inviting me to be a friend.
