Where artists' books and the book arts meet online...
I am a mostly self trained artisan bookbinder and book artist. In my works I investigate the book form.
I am very interested in how books work in all aspects: how pages are turned, or boards moved, how books are stored, how they are used. It is very interesting to me to observe how the material aspects of the book change its mechanics and thus the reading experience. - I have incorporated unusual materials in my works, exploring how far I can go, culminating in works with salt dough.
But my interest in books is not at all limited in the physical properties. Silent books that tell a story without any words are so very fascinating to me! And I have a keen interest in the written word. Written communication is such a powerful technology: Isn't it just like magic, that looking at an abstract pattern can make us weep or laugh out loud, can put ideas in our heads or give advice and guidance? Through my work I want to make my readers rediscover this magic which is the foundation of our culture and daily life and work. Many of my books are therefore not straight forward to read. They contain text hidden in secret compartments, or are written in secret skript or code, the pages have holes and the structure of my books may differ from a mainstream notion of a book.
