Background
Auto edición de libros de artista/Artist's books self publisher.
Printmaking is my primary medium. This allows to me to develop ideas by printing an image onto different surfaces, to repeat and to transform it. It allows me to put together image and text, to work in a more narrative way and combine sets of images. Artist’s books allow me a more narrative structure to explain ideas or visual stories. Things have their own life (las cosas tienen vida propia), said the gipsy Melquiades in one of my favorite books One Hundred Years of Solitude (Cien Años de Soledad), from Gabriel GArcia Marquez. Storytelling is a way to give extraordinary meanings to ordinary facts of life. Artist's books and visual poetry allows working with very elemental objects and give them a new dignity. Stories are an open field where the viewer may particpate and create their own story.

Available to everyone: Robert Jacks & Printed Matter

10 September - 24 October 2016

Printed Matter is pleased to announce Available to Everyone: Robert Jacks and Printed Matter, curated by Peter Anderson.

The exhibition presents two connected bodies of material: a survey of artists’ books by Australian painter, sculptor and bookmaker Robert Jacks (1942-2014), and an extensive selection of publications drawn from Jacks’ own collection, many of which were purchased from Printed Matter in the early years of the organization.
