An excellent history of the offset books produced in Rochester NY for nearly 3 decades is now available through the Visual Studies Workshop. Three of my early books were produced on one of their small presses there in the early 70's:
A is For Applebiting Alligators, The Nymph of the Highlands, and
Dream Pages. The Nymph book is featured on the page devoted to my work of that time. You can see all of the pages at my website here:…

I've already put my head above the parapet with this one on my blog (see blog posts
here) so the idea's out in public but I hadn't thought to put it up here until now. If you're interested in participating, read on and get in touch with me...
I'm putting together a group of people who make artists books and/or book objects with a view to creating a sort of book club for book artists. A piece of writing (novel, prose, poetry,…

I've just spent a chilly week at the Sturt Winter School in Mittagong, NSW, Australia, kneeling at the feet of Caren Florance (well not literally - that really would have been cold!) on her excellent 'Beautiful Books and Boxes' course. It's been a fun week and I came away with about a dozen books ranging from Asian stab bindings (which I've done before) to a caterpillar binding. The benefits of going on a course are many if, as was the case here, your tutor is knowledgeable, engaging and…

Brisbane artist Glen Skein will be returning to Barratt Galleries this weekend to run a second weekend workshop. The first workshop was fantastic and produced some great books. Glen is known Australia wide for his assemblage and book works and it was wonderful to work with him over the weekend. There are a couple of places left for the upcoming workshop so let me know if you would like to join an eclectic group of artists for this great opportunity.…

A beautiful exhibition of cyanotype prints and books will be opening today at Barratt Galleries in Alstonville by Toowoomba photographers/artist book makers Doug Spowart and Victoria Cooper. The cyanotype prints are amazing and the documenting of the process involved in making these prints is shown in the beautifully bound artist book 'white shadows' which comes in its own perspex slip case. As well as the exhibition Doug and Victoria will also host a cyanotpye workshop at the gallery on…

I've just posted the last batch of images of my very old book (1992!)
Growing Up in Elfland. You can see the photos individually in My Photos, but if you want to see the book as a whole, I'd recommend viewing the "Growing Up in Elfland" Album. I'll warn you, though, it's full of bad drawings and worse poetry. I'm really only posting it as part of an historical record of my development as a bookbinder and book artist.
Now I'll have to dig through my things and decide what to…
