creating titles for books

i've been making his book for about 3 or 4 years or maybe more on and off. it gets buried under stuff and brought out  after  few years. I lost the original for the screen  printing.when it turned up again i started it again. now its just about finished and I cant think of a name for it. It had a nick name (working title) 'the brain book'. I know I will eventually settle on the right name but I haven't yet.

are microfiche readers still in our library?

I'm going to see if our library still has the readers. i think that they put in computers instead in the last update of the space.

Single folded sheet constructions

I had a great day today folding papers and making artists books with Ed Hutchins. Linda Douglas organised a wonderful workshop and series of workshops in Australia and New Zealand.

There were 18 in the class at the NSW Writers centre in Rozelle. I came home with a folder of folded examples of books and ideas. Some I had done before but some I did for the first time.

Ed Hutchins shows us some of his travelling exhibition.…

book publishers

OK all you publishers or owners of book shops. How about promoting and selling artists books in your shops. How good would that be?
You will get a new lot of customers

book publishers joining the artist book 3.0

there seems to be a few publishers of books about art and craft and a bookshop owner joining this artists book social network. I wonder if they are trying to get free advertising or is it that they just do not understand what an artists' book is?

Australian bookbinders exhibition

I'm really looking forward to going to see this exhibition in sydney tomorrow night and catching up with other passionate artist book makers.

I put in a book that I made as part of the box of books given to me as chuck outs from the local library. I really appreciate all the hard work that has gone into the setting up of this exhibition by passionate volunteers.

The Firing Squad Meets the Press

Our group exhibition is in it's second 'week. After months of planning and making new work, the business of exhibiting and planning an opening is nearly over.

Documenting my work while it is installed is my focus now, and hoping that all who wish to see it have been able to make it to the gallery.

I am enjoying the experience of exhibiting in an artist run gallery where we have full editorial control and can use the gallery as we please. I can pin things to the walls move stuff around… Continue

big things

i recently read jan allsopp's blog about the big banana images. In Wollongong we have the 'big book' I now have a new digital camera as my other one died in the middle of documenting my exhibition. I'll take some pics of the big book for the artist books blogsite.
today I went to see the sculpture by the sea last day at Bondi and Tamarama in Sydney, Australia. What a crowd! No books there, except maybe for the scrabble pieces Sculpture.

lots of work for one little book

I've been working on this little book that used to be a diary from my hairdresser. I've painted the pages over about 3-5 times or more, each page. This means I have to wait until each page is fully dry before going onto the next page.
then I decided to do some drawings over the painted pages and now I want to put glaze over each drawing. it takes forever!! I don't have any pictures of the book. I wish I'd taken pictures as I went along. I doesn't have a name yet either.

looking for artists's books exhibitions in brisbane from 12th to 15th august 2008

I will be in Brisbane to see the Picasso and to go to the state library of Queensland exhibition of books. I'd hate to miss any artist books shows that i could easily get to. Does anyone know of any book shows in Brisbane at that time?

handling of artist books in public galleries

I recently picked up a work from a group exhibition. The work was taken down and packaged in bubble wrap but not folded in the concertina way it was delivered nor in the box I had chosen, provided and labelled with my name. I asked for the box but was looked at blankly by the staff member, probably a volunteer, who was packing up the show.

The work needed to be packed and stored as I had delivered it so it would not be damaged nor cause problems when next I got it out to exhibit.

Adding pictures of books

sorry everyone
I need L plates here. I got a bit confused and added too many images to the gallery pages. I didn't realise they would all be visible to everyone and take up so much space. I guess I'll work it all out eventually :(
this is such a great site.

choosing books for the next exhibition

I've been looking at all the books I have to chose from. eventually I made a decision and filled out the form and wrote the cheque. Now I have to write the statement and make a label with the details and then pack it and post it. So much administration to do when getting involved in exhibitions and competitions. I just like making the books, but I do admit I love to go to exhibitions and spending hours looking at and pouring over other people's books.
