Artist Books 3.0

Where artists' books and the book arts meet online...

The World is a Town is a unique artist's book I made in 2009. It is
based on the Novgorod Codex which dates back to the 11th century. For
further information on this book see my website www.cherylpennartistsbooks.com - it is Book 38.
ANYWAY!! I intend to disseminate this work as Mail Art. Everyone who sends me
mail art interpreting the title "The World is a Town" will receive a
mail art piece of this book. I will collate/bind the received mail art
and it will become a book once again - volume two of The World is a
Town. Unless Armageddon intervenes, all artists responding to this call
WILL receive a byte. Please post your mail art to:

Frieder Speck from Germany sent a series of wax coated ink drawings which were housed in a wooden box.  The box has become the cover and I have begun making the first signature with his beautiful images.  I have had to insert special wax paper in-between each violeen page so that they do not stick together.

I have started the binding process of this MAMMOTH TASK!! There were over 50 interpretations of this title which were exchanged as part of Volume 2. I have been delaying binding as all the pieces are disparate, but finally, two and a half years on, Volume 2, The World is a Town is in the making.

Available to everyone: Robert Jacks & Printed Matter

10 September - 24 October 2016

Printed Matter is pleased to announce Available to Everyone: Robert Jacks and Printed Matter, curated by Peter Anderson.

The exhibition presents two connected bodies of material: a survey of artists’ books by Australian painter, sculptor and bookmaker Robert Jacks (1942-2014), and an extensive selection of publications drawn from Jacks’ own collection, many of which were purchased from Printed Matter in the early years of the organization.
